Overview

Dolpo region is situated between the Dhaulagiri Himalaya range and Tibet. This region is dominated by Shey Phoksundo National Park. Dolpo Trek was closed for visitors till 1989 when only some parts were opened for camping trekkers. This adventure trip starts from sightseeing in the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kathmandu.

We fly to Nepalgunj and then go to Juphal airstrip in Jumla. This is the most remote area situated in Trans-Himalayan region of mid western Nepal. During the trek we pass some beautiful villages, land of mystery, Phoksundo lake at (3, 600 m.) and we have to pass Baga la (5,070 m.) and Numa la (5,190 m.) into Dho Tarap Village (4.040 m.).Upper Dolpo Sheula Pass, Phoksundo lake, Crystal Mountain, Shy Gompa (4,200 m.) Bon po Monastery, site of Eric Valley lie on the way. Flora and fauna and wild life are diversely found here. The valley and landscape are unique same as people and their culture found here.

Day 01: Arrival in kathmandu (1400m) transfer to hotel

On the first day, after your arrival at TIA our all time staff we’ll be waiting for you with a warm greeting and you’ll  be safely transferred to the hotel. It's been a long flight so you would be tired. You can have a rest or you can have a half day trip to the capital  kathmandu. At night you will have dinner and enjoy the city night  life in the main tourist hub of kathmandu thamel.

Day 02: Sightseeing in kathmandu world heritage site and prepare for permit and trek

This day is for the sightseeing of the UNESCO listed world heritage sites. Swayambhunath the oldest and popular monkey temple of nepal, patan durbar square one of the oldest cities of kathmandu valley, boudhanath one of the largest stupas in asia, pashupatinath oldest hindu temple of kathmandu. Now you can prepare for tomorrow's trip.

Day 03: Flight to nepalgunj (150m) 45 minutes

After having breakfast, we will start our journey towards the nepalgunj. Firstly pack your luggage and baggage and be prepared for the trekking. Then our staff will take you to the TIA. On this 45 minute flight you can see the dense forest and peaks. After the flight we will go to the hotel and take a rest on that day.

Day 04: Flight to jhupal (2475m) 25 minutes

We’ll start our day with a delicate breakfast and then we’ll just round around the local area and after that we’ll go to the airport and take a flight. It’ll take 25 minutes to reach jhupal. Then after that we start our trek in the region with a short hike to dunai from where we can see an amazing view of the surroundings.

Day 05: Trek to Chhepka (2838m) 6 hours

After having breakfast, we’ll start our journey from jhapal. It will take about 6 hours to reach chhepka. On a trail we can see the beautiful glimpse of natural beauty then you will enter the checkpoint for entering shey phoksundo national park. Now we will pass through a temperate region of dense forest, passing through small hamlets in route. Then we have to cross over the beautiful  phoksundo river. Then we upstream to chhepka and we rest for night.

Day 06: Trek to palam (3820m) 7 hours

We’ll start our day with breakfast and start to trek towards the palam. From chhepka to palam it will take  7 hours of trekking. We’ll trek through a tree-lined trail. The beauty of nature energies you and motivates you for trekking. In the middle of the journey we will take a break and have some snacks. Now you can see the glimpse of the himalayas. Now our day finally concludes on a palam and we enjoy our typical nepali cuisine at palam.

Day 07: Trek to Phoksundo lake (3260m) 6 hours

After breakfast, we’ll be refreshed and now our trek starts with a steady climb to alpine regions of the trail. Now you can see the stunning amphitheater enclosing the waters of phoksundo lake.  Now you can feel the mountain air which refreshes you and motivates you for your journey. Now our day finishes here at Phoksundo lake close by the lake.

Day 08: Rest Day

Phoksundo would be a great place to stop and spend the day.  We will enjoy the view of the waterfall and the stunning view of Phoksundo lake. Near the lake we can visit private gompas houses of small  monastic communities. Then at night we can enjoy the beverage and nepali cuisine.

Day 09: Trek to salla ghari (3640m) 6 hours

After breakfast we will trek towards the upper dolpo. We will follow the same trai followed by locals of Dolpo village, through the trail it would be adventurous for us. After we reached the top there we can get a view of beautiful lane ringmo and dark green pine forests. Then we will reach Salla Ghari which is a beautiful place for camping.

Day 10: Trek to Lar Tsa (4120m) 6 hours

Our day starts with a delicate breakfast and we start our trekking from both side high rock walls of salla ghari. To reach our destination it will take 6 hours.  After that we will set our camp on a narrow gorge. We will now enjoy the full board meal on camp.

Day 11: trek to shey gompa (4320m) 7 hours

Our day will start with breakfast and we start the trek which is gonna take 7 hours. It starts with a dusty path which leads us to kang La. For 3 hours we have to trek through a pass which is covered with snow then we reach at the Shey Gompa. Then we will have a full board meal.

Day 12: Rest day-shey gompa

We can explore around the gompa now which isn’t large. It is said that this building is 800 years old. We can find the statues of Guru Rinpoche, Sakyamuni and Milarepa on the altar. Now we will slowly start to descend down towards our camp.

Day 13: Trek to Namgung (4430m) 6 hours

Now we start to trek for Namgung which is filled with a friendly environment and beautiful place. To get there we have to cross the pass Glen from where we can observe a beautiful view of tibetan plateau which is the world’s highest plateau. We will have our overnight at Tented camp.

Day 14: Trek to saldang (4046m) 4 hours

With a delicate breakfast we will slowly start to trek towards the saldang village. Trek starts through a tree slope with breathtaking scenery. Saldang is one of the biggest villages of the dolpo area and which is situated above the Nam Khong nala. This village is rich for its strategic location on the trade route and agriculturally also. Then we will stay overnight on saldang.

Day 15: Trek to Sibu (4000m) 6 hours

Now we will be leaving Saldang village and we will move towards the way to sibu. On the way to Sibu we have to pass through Chaiba monastery, terraced fields and chortens mani. After we’ve reached sibu we will stay and enjoy our overnight stay there with the inclusive meals.

Day 16: Trek to foot of the Jengla (4480m) 5 hours

After breakfast we will start to move by following the trail of easy going through the river valley. We can see the fabulous views of hills and mountains  which makes us forget the pain of climbing. Then after reaching the destination jengla we will now stop and have our meal.

Day 17: Trek to Tokyo Gaon (4240m) 7 hours

Now we will start through the foot of the jengla and after 2 hours of climbing we will reach the top of jengla. From the top you will be amazed with the view of Dhaulagiri,  and the amazing morning golden views. After a beautiful trail down we move towards the tarap chu which consists of ten villages with cultivated fields and many gompas along with it.

Day 18: Trek to Dho Tarap (4200m) 2 hours

We start our walk from the east along the Tarap chu. There are four houses and an irregular stone wall which surrounds the Dho Tarap. In here we can find the inhabitants of both buddhist and bonpo. Now we can experience the buddhist gompa where lama lives. Then we will have our meal at night.

Day 19: Trek to Serkam (3623m) 7 hours

Now our root follows downwards through the narrow gorges with a river rushing. When we leave the course of the river our afternoon can bring up and down on the path. Now we will travel through the suspension bridge from where all local people and animals travel. Now we will stay overnight here. 

Day 20: Trek to Tarakot (2280m) 6 hours

We will start through a new suspension bridge and travel through the side of the river. Now we will walk around the various crops of millet, sweet corn, barley etc. It is the most fertile valley of the barbung chu. Now we can have an amazing view of the crops and fertile lands. We will now enjoy the meal.

Day 21: Trek to Dunai (2160m) 6 hours

We start our underfoot journey besides the bheri river using the ingenious path which is 20 feet above the river. You will have an stunning view of mountains and bheri river will amazes you. Now you wil enjoy your food and beverages as you are now on the lower altitude.

Day 22: Trek to Juphal (2404m) 4 hours

As this is the last day of your trekking so we’ll be trekking to jhupal by retracing the steps. At first the way is flat but at last way seems to be steeper. Now you’ll have an glimpse of  the 260 degree natural beauty surroundings. Then we will have our overnight at there.

Day 23: Flight to nepalgunj then kathmandu

Now we’ll have an early morning flight to nepalgunj which will be an amazing 35 minutes flyingg over the mountains and the scenery which is filled with natural beauty. Then you’ll be connected to the flight towards the kathmandu.
