Eventually, it leads to the spectacular viewpoint of Khopra Danda (Khopra Ridge).

Why Khopra Danda Trek ?

Unlike busier trekking trails, the Khopra Danda route is managed by a community-based lodge system. This ensures that tourism directly benefits local people while preserving the fragile mountain environment.

From the ridge, trekkers are rewarded with jaw-dropping panoramic views of Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Nilgiri, Hiunchuli, and the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail).

A major highlight of this trek is the optional but highly recommended hike to Khayer Lake (4,660m).

This sacred alpine lake is nestled beneath towering Himalayan peaks. Combining natural beauty, cultural richness, and responsible tourism, the Khopra Ridge Trek is a perfect choice for trekkers who want something truly special and less commercialized.

Khopra Ridge Trek / Community Trek of Nepal

The Khopra Danda Trek is a peaceful and scenic journey through one of the Annapurna region’s most unspoiled landscapes. Designed for trekkers seeking stunning Himalayan views without busy trails, this trek offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural authenticity, and rewarding high-altitude viewpoints. It follows a lesser-known route, making it an excellent alternative to Nepal’s more commercial trekking paths.

This trek passes through dense rhododendron and oak forests, traditional hillside villages, terraced fields, and remote alpine pastures. As the trail gradually climbs higher, the landscape opens to awe-inspiring views of some of Nepal’s most iconic peaks, including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). Each day brings changing scenery and a deeper connection to the Himalayan environment.

The main highlight of the journey is reaching Khopra Danda(Khopra Ridge) (3,660m), a dramatic ridgeline set high above surrounding valleys. From this remarkable vantage point, trekkers are rewarded with uninterrupted panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, especially breathtaking during sunrise and sunset. The quiet surroundings and minimal foot traffic make this viewpoint feel exceptionally intimate and serene.

An optional yet highly rewarding side trip leads to Khayer Lake (4,500m), a sacred alpine lake nestled beneath towering mountain walls. Revered by local communities, this remote destination adds spiritual significance and a sense of true adventure to the trek. The walk to Khayer Lake takes trekkers into raw high-altitude terrain, offering both challenge and unforgettable scenery.

Accommodation along the route is provided in community-run lodges and teahouses, where trekkers experience genuine mountain hospitality. These stays allow close interaction with local Gurung and Magar communities, providing insight into their traditions, lifestyle, and close relationship with the land. Meals are simple, nourishing, and prepared with locally sourced ingredients.

The Khopra Danda Trek is well suited for trekkers with moderate physical fitness. While the route includes steady ascents and descents, it does not involve technical climbing and is planned with appropriate acclimatization for safety and comfort. It is an ideal choice for both experienced trekkers looking for a quieter trail and adventurous first-timers seeking something beyond the standard routes.

The best seasons for this trek are spring (March to May), when forests bloom with colorful rhododendrons, and autumn (September to November), known for stable weather and clear mountain views. These periods offer the most rewarding trekking conditions and scenic beauty.

Overall, the Khopra Danda Trek is a hidden jewel of the Annapurna region, perfect for travelers who value solitude, meaningful cultural encounters, and dramatic Himalayan landscapes. It promises a deeply enriching trekking experience, combining nature, culture, and adventure into one unforgettable journey.

Itinerary

Adventure Himalaya Nepal offers this itinerary for Khopra Danda Trek of Nepal .

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a representative of Adventure Himalaya Nepal and transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. After check-in, there will be a short briefing about the trek. If time permits, you can explore the vibrant streets of Thamel.

After breakfast, drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (approx. 6–7 hours) along scenic highways following the Trishuli and Marshyangdi rivers. Enjoy views of terraced fields, rivers, and rural villages. Upon arrival in Pokhara, check into your hotel and relax by Phewa Lake.

After an early breakfast, drive to Nayapul (approx. 1.5 hours). Begin trekking through terraced farmland, riverside trails, and small villages. Gradual ascent brings you to the charming Gurung village of Ghandruk, famous for its traditional houses and stunning mountain views.

Today’s trek takes you through dense rhododendron and oak forests. The trail climbs steadily, becoming quieter and more remote. As you gain altitude, the views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre become more impressive.

Morning Hike to Mulde Viewpoint & Trek to Khopra Danda (3,660m). To reach the ridge at Khopra, you will embark on a steady climb that carries you above the tree line. This area is noted for wildlife, so you should keep your eyes open for Himalayan tahr and Danfe pheasant. The best way to tackle the climb is to ascend steadily, take your time, and rest as often as you wish. You will reach the lodge on Khopra Ridge in time for lunch and will be greeted by more awe-inspiring views. This extraordinary panorama includes Annapurna South, towering directly above you at only six kilometers away, with Fang and Nilgiri prominent to the north. Across the depths of the Kali Gandaki Valley, the Dhaulagiri Himal dominates the entire western skyline.

t is a very good idea to stay here for at least two days; you can take a beautiful day’s hiking trip to Khayer Lake at 4,700m/15,420ft. This, however, is not recommended for every trekker, because it is a very long way to trek to the lake and come back the same way to Khopra. It takes a minimum of 7 to 8 hours as a round trip but once you make your way up to there, you won’t regret your walk because of the eye-dazzling sceneries of Mountain Ranges including Annapurna I and other surrounding peaks. And it is also a good idea to go as far as Thanti (around 4,200m high) and come back. At Thanti, there are some shelters for yak herders and shepherds to stay in during the monsoon. The views of nature’s beauty are mesmerizing here.

From Kopra Ridge you will descend off the hillside and continue steeply downhill. You will retrace the route back to Chistibung. You will then head to the village of Swanta, where you will stay overnight in the newly constructed lodge. We have supported the local school over the years, and there is time to pay a quick visit, and perhaps interact with the kids.

From Swanta you will descend through the village fields to a small river and take a quick look at the local watermill. From here you will cross the suspension bridge and head upwards to the village of Chittre, where you’ll join the main trekking trail. There is a further ascent to reach the village of Ghorepani where you will be met with great views of the Dhaulagiri massif and a well-earned rest.

From Ghorepani, you will follow the trail of Poon Hill for 40 minutes, and then turn left on the grassy and rhododendron forests with small ups and downs until reaching where the trail is flat. Then there is a more strenuous climb up to Humpal pass (3,098m/ 10,165ft). Still, continue hiking along the ridge with Dhaulagiri and Annapurna and Manaslu for sunset vistas makes Mohare Danda is a good place to take an extra day’s rest! Mohare Danda itself is a perfect natural towering ridge. It offers a spectacular 360-degree mountain view through the Dhaulagiri range (8167m) high, Annapurna range (8091m), Manaslu Himal (8163m) vistas of deep magical landscapes, and magnificent sunrises and sunsets over the mountains. You will have your lunch there and return back the same way to Ghorepani.

After having breakfast, you will start your walk passing through the beautiful rhododendron forest. You will arrive at Ulleri with plenty of time to explore this picturesque village. From Ulleri there is a very steep descent of 500 meters on a stone staircase to the Bhurungdi Khola River where you will cross a small suspension bridge to reach the village of Tikhedunga.

After giving your knees the next day to recover, you will continue a more gentle descent to the village of Birethanti, on the banks of the Modi Khola. Here you will have lunch and then cross the new bridge to the east bank, before following the river back to the pick-up point at Nayapul. After saying farewell to your porters, you will be transferred by coach back to Pokhara where you can rest and relax.

With an end to your trek, you will head back toward Kathmandu today on a scenic drive of about 5-6 hrs. and after reaching Kathmandu, you can spend your time on activities of your desire as much as possible with the availability of time with you.

Today after breakfast we transfer you to the international airport in Kathmandu for your next destination, at least three hours prior to the flight schedule.
