Overview

Panauti Namobuddha Sanga Day Tour is designed for travelers who want to explore Nepal’s spiritual harmony within a single day. Nepal is a country where Hinduism and Buddhism coexist beautifully, and this tour is a living example of that unity.

Your journey begins with a scenic drive through the Kathmandu Valley, passing terraced farmlands and small villages. Upon reaching Panauti, you step back into medieval Nepal. The town’s authentic Newari culture, traditional temples, and sacred river confluence create a strong sense of history and continuity.

From there, the road ascends toward Namobuddha. The environment gradually becomes quieter and greener. Upon arrival at the monastery, the peaceful chants and fluttering prayer flags welcome you into a calm spiritual space. The story of the compassionate prince is not just mythology—it represents the core Buddhist philosophy of selflessness and compassion.

After soaking in the tranquility, the tour continues to Sanga. The towering Shiva statue stands proudly against the sky, symbolizing divine strength and protection. As you stand below the statue, you can feel the spiritual energy and admire the incredible craftsmanship that went into building this monument.

Throughout the day, you will experience:

  • Authentic Newari culture
  • Sacred Hindu temples

Panauti Namobuddha Sanga Tour is a beautifully curated one-day journey into Nepal’s timeless heritage, sacred spirituality, and serene countryside landscapes. Just a short drive from Kathmandu, this tour takes you through three significant destinations that showcase Nepal’s deep-rooted Hindu and Buddhist traditions.

From the medieval Newari town of Panauti, to the sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site of Namobuddha, and finally to the towering statue at Kailashnath Mahadev Statue in Sanga, this day tour offers a perfect combination of history, devotion, architecture, and natural beauty.

Ideal for families, spiritual seekers, cultural enthusiasts, and travelers short on time, this day trip offers a meaningful experience without requiring long trekking days or overnight stays.

Why Choose Our Panauti Namobuddha Sanga Tour?

Located about 32 km southeast of Kathmandu, Panauti is one of Nepal’s oldest towns, known for its preserved Newari architecture and spiritual atmosphere. The town sits at the sacred confluence of the Roshi and Punyamati rivers, believed to be joined by a third invisible river making it a holy Triveni.

The highlight of Panauti is the 13th-century Indreshwar Mahadev Temple, one of the largest and oldest surviving pagoda-style temples in Nepal. Walking through its narrow alleys, you will see beautifully carved wooden windows, traditional houses, temples, and local life unchanged by time.

Namobuddha is one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Nepal. According to legend, a young prince (an incarnation of Buddha) offered his body to a starving tigress and her cubs at this very place. This act of compassion makes Namobuddha deeply revered among Buddhists.

Today, the hilltop monastery, Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, stands majestically overlooking the valleys below. Colorful prayer flags flutter in the wind, monks chant in peaceful harmony, and the panoramic views of rolling hills and Himalayan ranges create a serene environment for meditation and reflection.

The final stop of the tour is Sanga, home to the massive 143-foot-tall Kailashnath Mahadev Statue ,one of the tallest statues of Lord Shiva in the world. Located on a hilltop, the statue offers spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and distant Himalayan ranges.

This sacred site attracts both pilgrims and tourists who come to admire the grandeur of the sculpture and enjoy peaceful surroundings.

Excellent Tour of Cultural Sites of Kathmandu My wife and I had an all day tour with Rajan on April 8, 2026. We customized the trip to focus on three specific sites, rather than taking the tour as presented. Rajan was very flexible and adjusted the number of sites to visit, route and timing, and we were very happy with the pace and content. Rajan is very knowledgeable and provided a lot of excellent commentary about all the sites, and life in Kathmandu, in general. One thing we particularly appreciated was that he was not “over the top” in terms of providing commentary — we have had some tours where the guides want to tell you everything they know about every site, and it can be a bit of an overload. Rajan was not like this — his commentary breadth and depth was just right for us. We had rain in the afternoon and he was quick to adjust the plan — we saw the last site during a rainstorm from the terrace of a restaurant across the street from the site, where we could enjoy it out of the elements and with hot tea — nice adjustment! We asked him what he would suggest we might bring home to characterize our visit to Nepal (our first) — he suggest artwork, and carried us to an art school where we could learn about local art and enjoy seeing some of the works. All in all, a very enjoyable day, and we would recommend Rajan for your tour of Kathmandu.
